Blind dating can be a bit scary, especially if you’ve never done it before. The mere thought of going on a date with someone that you’ve possibly never talked to or seen a picture of can make retreating to your couch with a good book seem like the better option. Even though blind dating can be a bit nerve-wracking, you may just end up enjoying yourself.
A blind date is usually put in motion by someone that is mutually known by both parties. This person believes that there is promise for a relationship to begin and flourish and that one is a potentially good match for the other. When blind dating, keep in mind the individual that is setting you up. This person wouldn’t want to be embarrassed by your actions, so you should do whatever possible to not only make a positive impression for yourself, but for the matchmaker as well.
When setting up the location for the initial date, consider going to a place where good conversation can be had without screaming to each other over the noise. Think about meeting at a location where the date won’t be short, but where it won’t last an exorbitant amount of time either. There is an opportunity to get a good impression, extend the date if you so choose or leave if it’s just not working out.
When blind dating, it’s a good idea to go into the date with zero expectations, which decreases the possibility of getting disappointed. When you have expectations, you may look for the other person to meet them instead of just experiencing him or her for who they are and taking it from there. Look at blind dating as being part job interview and part friendly meeting. Be upbeat, look presentable and reveal enough information about yourself without revealing too much.
While blind dating isn’t for everyone, think about trying it at least once. Even though it can seem intimidating, stay calm and just look at it as an opportunity to have a good time and become acquainted with someone previously unknown. Be yourself, stay positive and if it doesn’t work out, it doesn’t mean that it’s the end of your dating life. There is the potential for many more dates with others in the future.
