Located in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo and along the Yucatan Peninsula, Cancun is a wonderful place to get away for some rest and recreation. While visiting Cancun, there are several local sites and amusements to enjoy that are ideal for all members of the family.
Owing to the wonderful weather along the seaside, Mexican vacations such as a visit to Cancun would not be complete without spending some time on the beach. One of the most beautiful beaches in the area of Cancun is Playa Langosta. Considered one of the ideal beaches for swimming and other water sports, Playa Langosta features shallow waters that are ideal for snorkeling. Local services offer professionals that will supervise tourists who would like to try snorkeling for the first time. Along with the fun water sports, the beaches are covered with the beautiful powdered coral sand that is one of the distinguishing features of Cancun. When tourists want a short break from the water, sand, and sun, there are plenty of restaurants and bars located along the perimeter of the beach area.
No trip to Cancun would be considered complete without spending some time visiting Mayan ruins in the area. Playa Delfines is a beach area with a large public parking area that is within easy walking distance to a number of ruins, making it a great way to combine two activities into one. However, it is important to note that the waters along this beach tend to involve undertows, so many visitors prefer to take advantage of the excellent sun exposure and the ability to visit the ruins, rather than engaging in water sports.
For a more elaborate introduction into ancient Mayan culture, Zona Arqueologica El Rey may be the ideal focus of a Cancun vacation. Included in this area is a small temple that features several ceremonial platforms. Private guide services will supply tours of the area, or tourists may choose to roam around at will. The iguanas that are often found sunning themselves among the platforms will delight children. In fact, all members of the family are likely to enjoy feeding scraps of bread to the iguanas.
Of course, visiting Cancun for some rest and relaxation does not have to preclude a little nightlife. For a chance to enjoy Mexican cuisine, a visit to Yaxchilan Avenue in the downtown area will provide a wide range of salsa bars and restaurants. Several dancing clubs are also found in the downtown area as well. In the Hotel Zone of Cancun, there are a number of high tech clubs that will appeal to single people and couples who are looking for a good time. Such clubs as DadyO’s, CocoBongo, and Señor Frogs offer dancing, a wide range of cuisine, and party opportunities that stretch all the way to sunrise. For families, there is also a number of entertainment clubs that offer local music shows with dinner, with everything from traditional Mexican folk music to modern salsa available for the evening’s amusement.
