Tired of the conventional museums that are present in every city? Want to see something completely different? The town of Mount Horeb in Wisconsin houses the Mount Horeb Mustard Museum, which features the world's largest collection of mustards. While it may seem odd to devote a complete museum to mustards, former Assistant Attorney General Barry Levenson has created a fun experience out of something simple and mundane.

At last count, the Mustard Museum featured over 4,300 types of mustard from 60 different countries around the world. Bottles, jars, and pots, both new and vintage, are also part of the permanent collection, as are other items that highlight the evolution of the mustard since its invention over 100 years ago. All types of mustard advertisements and mustard memorabilia are also spread around the museum.

If you need more, stop by one of the main museum rooms to see the film Mustard: The Spice of Nations, or subscribe to The Proper Mustard, their monthly newsletter featuring mustard-related events and news. The Mustard Museum also organizes the annual National Mustard Day on the first Saturday in August. The event, which consists of a parade, plus free food, drinks, and games, is a major celebration in the small town of Mount Horeb.

After a free tasting, visitors to the Mustard Museum can take home part of the collection, as the museum shop offers an amazing selection of mustards and mustard-based products that range from oils to dipping sauce to mustard herbal baths. For the little ones, the Mustard Museum also offers Captain Mustard toys.

If you cannot make it to the Mustard Museum, consider visiting their online home. Not only will you get a treasure of information there, but you will also be able to buy some of their products, such as the "Wild Wisconsin Gift Box," where, for $34.95 US Dollars, you get a chance to taste several types of mustard, including the popular Key Lime Mustard, plus some other Wisconsin products, such as the Wisconsin Wilderness Cranberry Chutney.
