Liquid bronzer is a type of cosmetic product designed to give the user a sun-kissed glow without actually having to get a tan. In addition, liquid bronzer is much easier to simply wash off and remove than a self-tanner, which can take days to fade if a mistake is made. It may come in a powder form as well, but liquid and gel forms are becoming more common.

A liquid bronzer typically comes in a bottle or squeeze tube. It is generally a good idea to purchase a bronzer that is approximately two shades darker than one's natural skin tone, or the foundation that is used. A bronzer that is too dark will look very unnatural, and can end up looking orange. It is priced comparably to a liquid foundation. For sensitive skin, choose a bronzer that is oil-free and noncomedogenic. A particularly oily complexion might do better with a powder bronzer.

To use liquid bronzer, begin by thoroughly cleansing, drying, and moisturizing the face. It is a good idea to use a moisturizer that contains sunscreen every day, to prevent wrinkles and sun damage. Next, apply concealer to the necessary areas, and a small amount of foundation, being sure to blend well. The foundation will help to create a smooth, even base onto which the bronzer may be applied.

Next, using fingertips or a makeup sponge, apply a small amount of liquid bronzer to the apples of the cheeks, working the product up toward the hairline. In addition, apply small amounts to the forehead, nose, temples, and jawline to make it appear more natural. Be sure to blend well, and only use as much as necessary; for this reason, starting with a small amount and adding more as needed is a good idea. If too much is applied, simply wash the face and start over, or wipe it off with makeup remover. It will generally take some practice to get a natural look when using liquid bronzer.

Using liquid bronzer appropriately can create a healthy, dewy look, while completely avoiding skin damage from the sun. For those who want a longer-lasting bronzed look, a self tanner is an option; there are some specifically designed for use on the face, and will help to gradually darken the skin over time. It is generally not necessary to wear a lot of additional makeup when using bronzer; sometimes a little bit of mascara and lip gloss is all that is needed for a beautiful, natural look.
