The General Educational Development (GED®) test allows a person within the United States or Canada to earn the equivalent of a high school diploma. Results of the GED® test are received on GED® transcripts. These transcripts will list a test taker's score in each of the five areas tested in the exam, including writing, reading, science, social studies, and mathematics.

GED® transcripts are generally mailed after the test has been completed and scored. Copies of the transcripts may be needed for college or job applications. These can generally be obtained from the American Council on Education.

When GED® transcripts are received, they will included the full legal name, address, and date of birth of the person who took the exam. Also included on the form may be the name of the examiner and the date the test was issued. When an individual takes the GED® more than once, only the highest score will appear on the transcript.

Each of the five sections of the GED® test is scored individually, and each score will be listed on the transcript. Scores may contain a status of pass, fail, or incomplete. Passing scores may different in each state. A mark of incomplete in the status section will be listed if the person did not take or complete all five section of the exam. An overall status of pass, fail, or incomplete may also be listed on the transcripts.

In addition to pass or fail, GED® transcripts also list a standard score for each section. Scores may range from 200 to 800. This number will reflect the individual's performance on the test as compared with that of a student in Grade 12. The score does not show how many questions the candidate answered right or wrong on the test.

Transcripts may also include a percentile ranking for each section. This ranking compares the test taker's scores with those of others who have taken the same test. The higher the person overall score, the higher their percentile ranking will be.

The date in which the test was taken may be listed for all five sections on GED® transcripts. Some transcripts may include the test form that was used for each section. The address and phone number of the testing center is generally listed on GED® transcripts. The transcript may also include the test format style and the identification number of the GED® testing center.
