The bael fruit comes from a tree that is native to India and has a wide variety of traditional therapeutic uses. This fruit is often used to treat gastrointestinal disorders, respiratory illnesses, and skin problems. Additional uses of the bael fruit include the treatment of hemorrhoids, fever, and insomnia. Thyroid disorders, cardiac abnormalities, and diseases affecting the eyes may also be treated with this fruit. While the bael fruit is considered safe for most people, it should not be used as a substitute for traditional medical care.

Gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are often eased by consuming bael fruit. Stomach ulcers, constipation, and hemorrhoids may also be treated with this herbal remedy. Intestinal spasms caused by medical conditions such as Crohn's disease or irritable bowel syndrome may be calmed by the consumption of bael fruit.

Some respiratory conditions may improve as a result of consuming bael fruit. Chronic coughing, wheezing, or respiratory spasms are specific symptoms that are commonly treated with this fruit. Asthma, bronchitis, and influenza are types of respiratory illnesses that have been traditionally treated with formulations made from this herb.

Skin disorders such as vitiligo, eczema, or psoriasis may be treated with the fruit from the bael tree. Pain and inflammation caused by bee stings or insect bites are thought to be relieved by applying a paste made with this fruit to the affected area of skin. The bael fruit is believed to possess some antibacterial properties, so skin infections may be prevented or treated when this fruit is applied to cuts, scrapes, or other minor wounds.

Fruit taken from the bael tree may assist in the prevention or treatment of heart disease and other cardiovascular issues. This herb is though to lower cholesterol levels and promote proper blood circulation. Chest pain caused by muscle spasms may be relieved when using this dietary supplement.

Additional medical conditions or symptoms that are reported to benefit from the use of the bael fruit include cholera, seizure disorders, and depression. Gum disease, visual disturbances, and fluid retention have also been historically treated with this fruit. Allergic reactions to this herbal remedy are rare, but symptoms such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the mouth or throat should be reported to a doctor immediately. Any specific questions or concerns about the use of this fruit or its safety in an individual situation should be discussed with a doctor or other medical professional.

My grandmother is from India and she is a big believer in the therapeutic uses of bael fruit. In fact, for many years she had bael fruit imported to her here in the States.

She would eat some almost any time she felt ill. It wasn't just for nausea or respiratory pain, she would eat some when she had sore muscles, a runny nose or even when she was feeling kind of depressed.

I went on a vacation to India a few years ago with my husband and children. We went on an extended sightseeing tour and at one point my husband fell ill with terrible stomach troubles.

I was really worried and wanted my husband to see a doctor immediately. My husband is stoic to a fault and we were not close to a quality medical facility so it seemed unlikely that we would find a doctor or medicine.

The tour guide suggested that my husband eat some bael fruit. He did and his symptoms were gone the next day. In fact, he said that he felt fantastic. So there really is something to this incredible fruit. I have never put a lot of stock in natural remedies but the bael fruit is turning me into a believer.
