Types of cosmetics jars vary according to size, shape, material, and closure. Cosmetics jars are used primary to package and distribute beauty products, but they can also be used for aesthetic purposes. Some individuals put personal products into cosmetics jars because the unified jars look more attractive in their bathroom or business.
Cosmetics jars are usually glass, plastic, or metal. Clear jars are useful since they allow the product to be visible, which makes it easier to identify. Many products have a pleasing look to them, whether they are creamy white, iridescent and shiny, or clear. In many cases, the product itself become part of the package, which is why so many cosmetics jars are clear.
Even so, cosmetics jar are available in a wide variety of colors. Plastic and glass jars are available in a variety of colors. Metal jars may come in brushed or chrome finishes, or may be painted.
The shape of the jar itself varies greatly. It can be almost any size, although most cosmetics jars are made to hold under 12 ounces (340 g). The jars may be round, square, oval, or oddly shaped. Since the materials used to make jars can be easily molded, almost any conceivable shape is possible.
One distinct difference concerning cosmetics jars is in the closure. Typically, the jar has a screw or snap on lip. It can be small or wide mouthed. Another style is called the flip lid, or canister, which uses a latch to secure the top of the jar. Typically, a rubber ring rests on the rim of the jar to prevent cracking and to provide a better seal on canister-style jars.
Jars are also available with pumps or spray closures. These are popular with very thin substances, like lotions or liquids. Pumps and sprays are almost always made of plastic.
There are some specialty styles of jars. One type is the stackable jar. These are a collection of two or more jars which screw or snap together. The bottom of the higher jar acts as a lid to the jar beneath it. These are space saving and also help to organize similar products.
Another type of specialty jar is the sifter lid. Separating the contents from the lid is a perforated plastic sheet which only allows a small amount of the contents out at a time. These are common for powdered cosmetics, like foundation, loose blush, or scented body powders.
