There are as many kinds of anti-aging lotion as there are kinds of skin. With so many options, many consumers have a hard time choosing the right lotion for their skin. Most anti-aging lotions contain ingredients such as collagen, sunscreen, and vitamins to help skin stay elastic and free of sun damage.

There are a few things that happen to the skin as it ages that contribute to making the skin look old. The two main factors are sun damage and loss of collagen or elasticity. Sun damage can lead to age spots, freckles, and uneven skin tone on the face. Loss of collagen and, therefore, elasticity in the skin can lead to sagging skin and wrinkles.

Most varieties of anti-aging lotion focus on treating one of these issues. For sun-damaged skin, there are a number of kinds of products. There are whitening and lightening varieties of anti-aging lotion that are supposed to specifically help to fade away age spots on the skin. Vitamin C is often used to help reduce the appearance of age spots and is often a key ingredient in these products. Anti-aging lotion for sun-damaged skin should also include ingredients that give the product an SPF, which is short for sun protection factor, of at least 15.

Protecting the skin from dun damage is one of the best ways to keep the skin looking young. Products with SPF may not be able to reverse the signs of aging, but they can certainly help to reduce sun damage that will create additional signs of aging in the skin. Many people use anti-aging lotion for their entire bodies which are formulated with an SPF.

Loss of collagen in the skin can be remedied by products made with collagen. These sorts of products work by replacing the collagen that has been lost in the skin, which helps to plump up the skin and give it better elasticity. In so doing, sagging skin is given a slight lift and wrinkles are reduced or made less visible. Anti-aging lotion with collagen cannot permanently reverse wrinkles and sagging skin, but regular use can help to make the skin look younger on a daily basis.

One of the best ways to keep the skin healthy and to retain elasticity is to stay hydrated. In addition to using anti-aging lotion with collagen, drinking plenty of water and limiting one's intake of caffeinated beverages and alcohol can help to keep the skin healthy and young-looking.
