What are the Different Options for Decorating a Black Christmas Tree?

There are many different options for decorating a black Christmas tree, and the best part is that there is no right or wrong way to do it. Some people choose to use this type of Christmas tree as their actual Christmas tree for the holiday, while others will use the tree at other times of year, particularly around Halloween, or even just as a fun decoration. The best way to decorate this type of Christmas tree is to get creative and use ornaments and colors that might otherwise look strange on a regular tree; for instance, some people find that using orange or purple lights looks especially interesting on a black tree.

Some people also choose to use shaped lights to decorate a black Christmas tree. These are easy to find in stores or online, especially around Halloween, and they may be found in different shapes such as skeletons, ghosts, or pumpkins, just to name a few. All of these will look nice. Garland may be added as well; traditional silver or gold garland may look nice, as well as garland designed in Halloween colors, such as orange and purple. Other people choose a specific theme for decorating the tree, and may even change it with the seasons; for example, some use "goth" decor, while others may choose a favorite movie, such as The Nightmare Before Christmas, which is an especially popular choice.

Many choose to avoid the Halloween themes altogether when decorating a black Christmas tree, and will instead give the tree more of a basic, tuxedo-like appearance. This can be accomplished by using white lights and white decorations, and can be a fairly striking, modern alternative to a traditional Christmas tree. White beaded garland, or even ribbon, looks especially nice when used in this way.

Another way to decorate a black Christmas tree is to make your own ornaments. This can be fun as well as a way to save some money. Of course, there is always the option to simply decorate the black Christmas tree like any other Christmas tree. Some people simply prefer the look of a black tree, and it is still a more eco-friendly alternative than purchasing a tree that had been cut down. Have fun decorating the tree and don't worry about making a mistake; it can always be changed.

I own a black Christmas tree, I decorate it with aqua, silver and clear lights. It looks absolutely enchanting.

@boathugger- I don’t think it is representative of anything or has any significant meaning. I read an article that said that people are just starting to venture out and be non-traditional. The article stated that, in Britain, the black Christmas trees sell better than the green ones by ten percent. It went on to say that a lot of people think it is classy to have a black tree.

I, like you, had never seen nor heard of a black artificial Christmas tree until reading the magazine article and this Wisegeek article.

This is a very interesting article. I have never even heard of a black Christmas tree. I'm not even sure why anyone would want one. Does it mean something or represent something?
