Coreg® is commonly prescribed in the treatment of high blood pressure. As with other, similar prescription medications, the side effects of Coreg® are numerous. Some of the most common Coreg® side effects include changes in blood sugar levels. Drops in blood pressure, dizziness, light-headedness, nausea, and vomiting have also been found to be common side effects of Coreg® use. In addition, those who have been prescribed this medication may experience a chronic cough, experience difficulty falling asleep, and have numbness in the extremities. Serious side effects of Coreg® use include extreme shortness of breath, a rapid heartbeat, and difficulty swallowing or breathing, and should be treated with immediate medical assistance.
One of the most common side effects of Coreg® includes changes in blood sugar levels. Patients who are prescribed Coreg® most commonly see a substantial increase in blood sugar. Though high blood sugar levels can be dangerous enough on their own, they can also lead to the development of blurry vision, extreme thirst and hunger, weakness, and an increase in urination. Blood sugar monitoring is very important for those who have been prescribed Coreg®, especially those who have previously been diagnosed with diabetes, or who have a family history of the condition. Typically, once the medication is discontinued, blood sugar-related side effects disappear.
Side effects of Coreg® have also been found to include a substantial drop in blood pressure. As with blood sugar, low blood pressure can lead to feelings of dizziness or light-headedness. In more serious cases, it can lead to nausea, vomiting, and even coma.
Other common side effects of Coreg® have been found to include a chronic cough that does not go away, difficulty falling asleep, and numbness or burning in the extremities. Typically, these symptoms tend to decrease in severity with ongoing use. Patients who experience these symptoms for an extended period of time, however, may be required to switch to a different brand of medication.
In some cases, side effects of Coreg® can be much more serious. Some studies have suggested that ongoing Coreg® use can lead to the development of extreme shortness of breath, a rapid or irregular heart beat, difficulty swallowing or breathing, swelling of the extremities, chest pain, and other similar conditions. Those who develop these conditions should seek medical assistance as soon as possible. Failure to treat these symptoms within a reasonable period of time can, at times, be life-threatening.
