What are the Common Avelox®? Side Effects?

Avelox® is the brand name version of the drug moxifloxacin. It's an antibiotic, administered either in pill form or by IV, and is intended to be used mainly as a treatment for bacterial infections. Its side effects range from common and mild to severe and rare. Some of the common Avelox® side effects include dizziness, depression, nausea, vomiting, headaches, diarrhea and trouble sleeping.

Certain signs may seem common or minimal but could actually be indications of an allergic reaction to Avelox®. These signs can include developing a rash or hives, having difficulty breathing, experiencing swelling in the face or mouth area and feeling a tightness in the chest. It's also important to keep an eye on the injection site, if any, to take note of any changes such as redness, itching, swelling or pain. Seek medical treatment at once, no matter how insignificant it seems, if there are any indications of a potential allergic reaction.

The two most common Avelox® side effects are diarrhea and nausea. Other common side effects a patient may experience include vomiting, dizziness, feeling anxious and having headaches. Some may also have sleep problems, including having nightmares or insomnia. Slight itching can also be a common side effect, however, if you experience it, call the doctor at once. As one of the signs of an allergic reaction is developing hives or a rash, it's best to get checked by a doctor to verify that the itching is just a mild side effect and not the start of an allergic reaction.

Many patients will not experience all of these Avelox® side effects but instead will experience only some of them. The side effects, as well as their severity, will vary from person to person. Before taking any pain reliever or additional medication while taking Avelox®, it's important to consult with a doctor first. He or she may be able to recommend options to help reduce or prevent side effects.

Even if a side effect is thought of as common, it's still important to seek medical treatment if it continues for a long period of time or becomes severe. If you experience any Avelox® side effects that seem different than normal or are thought of as severe, immediately contact a doctor. It is helpful, for yourself as well as for your doctor, to keep a daily journal of Avelox® side effects you experience to be aware of how your body reacts to the medication.
