The best holiday gifts are things that people have been wanting or admiring. This seems like a simple guideline, but unless the person you are buying the gift for gives you some clues, it can be a daunting task. The same is true for people that seem to have everything.

One clever idea, if you are crafty, and willing to put some time into it, is a money wreath. Giving money is usually considered impersonal and tacky. The money wreath makes it a unique and wonderful gift. It's best for a family with children, but just about everyone will love it.

First get a wire clothes hanger, and bend it into a wreath shape. You will need some dollar bills, different colors of curling ribbon, and assorted holiday candies. Make sure the candy is individually wrapped so that it has a bit of the paper twisted at the ends. You will need to fold the dollar bills accordion style horizontally and tie a length of curling ribbon to the middle. Tie it to the hanger and curl the ribbon. You will then tie each piece of candy to a piece of ribbon, and tie those to the hanger, curling the ribbon on each. Alternate the bills with the candy till the hanger is full. It takes a bit of time and patience, but the result is beautiful and dramatic, and can be hung inside the persons house.

Holiday flower arrangements are perfect for the person that has everything. It brightens up their home or office, and gives them a nice pot or vase that can be used later, or just stored away for next year.

If the person you are buying for likes to go out, a great idea is a pre-paid dinner or dining coupon at their favorite restaurant. Tickets to a show or play would be great also, but make sure of date details first if possible. You want to make sure the person can use them.

If they like to cook or bake, you can look over all the latest kitchen gadgets at a kitchen store. Whatever the hobby, there are always new supplies in the marketplace.

Let's not forget jewelry. If the person wears it, you can be sure that tasteful gems are always appreciated. Try to keep in mind also, that just because you notice they don't wear a watch, for example, doesn't mean that they need or want one. It could just mean that they don't like to wear watches.

The most important thing is to know the person you are buying for and get the most appropriate gift. It shows them that you were paying attention and that you care.

WiseGEEK is dedicated to providing accurate and trustworthy information. We carefully select reputable sources and employ a rigorous fact-checking process to maintain the highest standards. To learn more about our commitment to accuracy, read our editorial process.

Sunny27- A great holiday food gift for employees would be a Junior’s cheesecake. Junior’s is a bakery in New York City that is famous for its cheesecake. People come from all over just to have their cheesecake.

They do ship their cheesecake and they make great corporate gifts because you are offering the incredible experience of Junior’s Cheesecake to all of your employees who normally would not have the chance to experience such a thing.

I love giving unique holiday gifts like that.

I have been to Junior’s and they are fabulous.

I wanted to say that I typically look online for a while to get holiday Christmas gift ideas. I usually have a hard time finding something for my Father-in-law because he has just about everything.

I try to find works of art. He loves nautical themed gifts, and I found an artist that specializes in this type of art.

I bought him a lighthouse inspired gift and he loved it, but I am always looking for new ideas.

SurfNturf-Corporate holiday gifts are usually gift baskets, pens, crystal, or something that the recipient may like.

For example, my husband’s boss loves wine, so I always go to the liquor store and buy what he normally drinks.

When buying liquor, it is best to know as much detail as possible because there is so much variety that you do not want to buy the wrong gift.

If you do not have the brand, you should at least know the type of wine the recipient would likely drink.

You can also look at brandy, vodka or a dessert liqueur. A lot of times, liquor stores will have gourmet holiday gift sets available that might include gourmet cheese and chocolate.

Sunshine31-I think that great holiday gifts for teachers are those Entertainment books that offer coupons and free items for a variety of restaurants and entertainment venues across the city.

It is a great value and Upromise is selling them for 20% off and free shipping. I also think that restaurant gift certificates are great holiday gifts.

A few years ago, I sent my sister a gift certificate for Tavern on the Green, which is a landmark restaurant in Manhattan. She absolutely loved it and created a beautiful memory with her and her husband because they had never been there.

Many people find expensive restaurants too indulgent and usually miss out on the experience. However, if you are given a gift certificate than you do not feel so guilty and can actually enjoy yourself.

For example, I always wanted to go to China Grill, but I can’t justify paying for dinner there when I have small children, but if I got a gift certificate, I would feel differently.

I never thought about doing a money wreath. That is a really good idea.

I usually make a list of people when I put together holiday gift ideas. I try to find unique holiday gifts that people would like. Sometimes I buy holiday food gifts for people that I don’t know too well like my children’s librarian and the ladies that work at the front desk at my kid’s school.

Chocolate holiday gifts from Godiva can make the best presents in this case because these are the very best chocolates. They also sell gourmet hot chocolate, candy bars and those cute Santa Claus wrapped chocolate. You can also make your own basket or have Godiva put one together with whatever you like.

Holiday food gifts like Harry and David baskets or Hickory Farms is also a nice idea. These are best when you have no idea what to buy.
