There are many vitamins and minerals that can both prevent the visible signs of aging and drastically reduce the signs of aging that might already be present. An individual can enjoy the benefits of anti-aging vitamins by eating foods rich in those vitamins, taking vitamin and mineral supplements, or using topical creams that contain the vitamins. One of the most effective vitamins for wrinkles is vitamin A which, along with reducing wrinkles, has many other anti-aging properties. Selenium — a mineral found in foods like grains, poultry, and fish — preserves skin elasticity, which can help keep the skin looking youthful longer. Vitamin C is one of the most effective vitamins for wrinkles because it both promotes collagen production, and fights the free radicals that can break down collagen.

Vitamin A is one of the most effective vitamins for wrinkles, and many believe it should be part of any anti-aging skin care regimen. Along with reducing wrinkles, vitamin A has also been proven to reduce other visible signs of aging, like brown spots. Look for topical creams that contain retinoids, which are derivatives of vitamin A. Those who use prescription retinoids see results faster than those who use over-the-counter products, but prescription creams can cause redness, irritation, and flaking. It might take longer for a user to see visible results with over-the-counter retinoids, but they are effective, and usually have fewer and less severe side effects.

Selenium is a mineral found in foods like eggs, garlic, whole grain cereals, and seafood. Selenium has many protective properties; it helps to protect the body from cancer, like skin cancers that can result from sun exposure. Selenium can also help keep the skin looking young and youthful by preserving tissue elasticity. Selenium can be effective whether taken orally or applied directly to the skin topically. An individual can benefit from selenium by eating foods that contain the mineral, taking selenium supplements, or using selenium creams.

One of the most well-known vitamins for wrinkles is vitamin C. This antioxidant not only helps stimulate the production of collagen, which makes the skin firm and less prone to wrinkles, it also fights the free radicals that break down collagen. Eating foods rich in vitamin C can help to not only prevent wrinkles from forming, it can also help smooth existing wrinkles and fine lines. Vitamin C can also be effective when used topically, and is found in many lotions and creams. After washing the face, but before applying moisturizer, apply a topical cream that contains vitamin C, which will ensure that the skin will absorb the vitamin, and will benefit to the fullest.

@raynbow- I think the best answer is that a combination of eating certain foods, taking multivitamins, and using creams all help to keep your skin looking youthful. However, of all three methods, diet plays the most crucial role because you won't look your best if you don't eat healthful foods.

Though apply facial creams with vitamins is good for your skin, and taking multivitamins helps balance your diet, these methods do not work as well as eating foods like lean protein, vibrantly-colored fruits and green vegetables. This is because your body absorbs the most nutrients from foods. It also glows from the inside out when you eat a balanced diet with all of the necessary daily vitamins. Vitamin-rich foods also help to plump up the skin, which in turn helps to prevent wrinkles from developing.

Whether taking supplements, eating vitamin-rich foods, or applying cream, I never thought of these actions as using vitamins to prevent wrinkles. With three different ways to get vitamins for your skin, what is the best way to ensure the most results in the fight against aging and wrinkles?
