Choosing the best makeup for freckles depends on whether you desire to conceal your freckles or whether you want them to be visible. If you want to minimize the appearance of your freckles, you may wish to use a fairly opaque foundation layered with a concealer as well as powder. If you want to even out your skin tone but want your freckles to show, your best bet may be to use a tinted moisturizer, sheer foundation, or even just a dusting of translucent powder on your face. As freckles are often found on people with fair skin, it is very important that your makeup for freckles contain a sunscreen or that you wear a separate sunscreen with a minimum sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 under your cosmetics.

While many people find freckles attractive, others prefer to conceal them with cosmetics. If you want to use makeup for freckles in this manner, you will have to strike a balance between concealing your freckles while not looking too heavily made up. You may wish to start by dabbing a concealer over the areas on your face where you have the most freckles. You should then apply a foundation over the concealer and blend it well in order to give your skin a more natural appearance. Finally, you can dust a layer of translucent powder over your face for an additional bit of coverage. This process will not fully eliminate the appearance of having freckles, but it can make them less noticeable.

If you like your freckles but feel that you should wear some type of foundation, you may wish to look for a sheer foundation formula or a tinted moisturizer. If necessary, use a separate concealer only on those parts of your face, such as under your eyes, that require additional coverage. Another option is to simply wear a sunscreen or a moisturizer that contains sunscreen on your face and then lightly dust your face with powder for a more finished look.

In all cases, it is very important that, in addition to wearing makeup for freckles, you take steps to protect your skin from the sun. This is true no matter what type of skin you have, although it is more important if you have very fair skin. Many people find that layering products that contain sunscreen can be a good way of protecting their skin while also wearing the cosmetics that help them look their best. Look for moisturizers, foundations, and even powders that contain sunscreen for maximum sun protection.

My freckles extend to my neck and shoulders. What is the best makeup for these areas? Do I need waterproof makeup?

@ankara-- Yea, I've been bad about using makeup with SPF. But I do use mineral makeup and I think that provides natural protection from the sun.

I'm not like you at all. I don't like my freckles and I have to make sure that they are fully covered. So tinted moisturizers and light powders don't work for me. I use a regular liquid foundation or powder foundation with good coverage only. I also use concealer on my cheeks where my freckles are concentrated.

I also discovered something called blemish balm which is sort of a moisturizer and foundation in one. It covers freckles very well. So sometimes I use this and then some powder on top.

The best makeup for freckles is definitely one with sunscreen and I don't prefer one with anything less than SPF 30.

Freckles form in response to sun exposure and very dark and large freckles can increase the risk for skin cancer. So my number one priority when it comes to makeup is sun protection. I don't even care if the makeup doesn't cover my freckles fully.
