How Do I Choose the Best Face Concealer?

There are many types of concealers with multiple methods of application. Choosing the best one depends on what you are covering; for example, dark circles under the eyes can be covered with a yellow base face concealer. In general, wand concealers are best for light-colored skin, while concealers in pots or sticks are good for olive to darker skin tones. Once you have chosen the best face concealer, though, you will need to blend it with other kinds of makeup to make it appear natural.

The original purpose of concealer was to hide dark circles under the eyes. Modern makeup is now designed to do much more, including diminish the appearance of scars and acne. While yellow concealer looks best on many people’s normal skin, certain colors work better on acne and scars. For example, green goes best over red marks like acne and birthmarks and mauve goes well on very yellow skin tones because it tones the color down. The right shade of these colors depends a lot on your exact skin tone and the color of the marks you wish to hide.

A concealer can come in many forms, including cream, mineral, and liquid. Mineral concealers sometimes enhance the appearance of wrinkles and lines. This can be minimized by moisturizing a few minutes prior to applying the face concealer. In general, however, it is usually better to use a face concealer that does not make creases more noticeable. Creamy and liquid face concealers are very good at providing coverage without creasing.

Blending your face concealer in with the rest of your facial makeup should not be difficult if you have chosen the right color. Many makeup experts recommend applying moisturizer, followed by the concealer, then foundation. There is no right or wrong method, though, and some people prefer to put face concealer on after their foundation because it looks better or lasts longer. For the most part, your best application tool for face concealer is your finger, so there is no need to buy special brushes or wands.

Sometimes a concealer gives the wearer “raccoon eyes,” meaning the concealer is very obvious to others. The concealer can be too light or too dark, giving your eyes a raccoon-like ring. In this case, you chose the wrong color or applied too much. If you do not have another color concealer around to test, just adjust the amount you apply. Many people put too much face concealer under their eyes to hide dark circles, but it actually does not take a lot of the right makeup to conceal blue-black marks.
