How do I Choose the Best Detox Products?

You should go about choosing the best detox products by first speaking with your doctor to determine which ingredients or diets are safest. There are various types of detox products and plans available on the market, but not all of them are safe or effective. You should also determine the reasoning behind doing a detox in order to find the most beneficial products.

Many detox products are used to promote fast weight loss. These can include special diets using supplements and a restrictive food list or systems of pills to be taken at set intervals. Many of these products are not effective for long-term weight loss and some may even be dangerous. One of the ways weight loss detox products work is by causing diarrhea, resulting in weight loss from water loss and emptying of the colon. Before attempting any restrictive diet plans or detox pills, it is a good idea to speak with your doctor.

If you do choose to use a detox diet product, be sure to choose one that is not overly restrictive for long periods of time. Fasting detox plans should be performed for no longer than three days for most people, although some research indicates that up to a week is no harmful. Check the ingredient list of any supplements you will be using on the plan, and have your pharmacist look over them to determine if they are safe and if they will pose any risk for drug interactions if you are currently taking any prescription medications.

Other detox products include colon cleansing agents that are supposed to rid the large intestine of built-up waste products. Waste accumulates on the sides of the colon and can lead to fatigue, weight gain, and a host of health problems. There are products available to flush the colon of its contents in order to prevent these consequences.

You should remember, though, that eating a diet rich in fiber and drinking enough water is the best way to clear the colon. If you do choose a detox plan, make sure it is approved by your doctor. Severe diarrhea can sometimes result from product containing harsh stimulants, resulting in cramping and sometimes dehydration. If these symptoms occur, discontinue use of the product immediately and consult your doctor.

Most times the benefits given by detox products can be easily achieved by changing diet and exercise habits to healthier ones. Be sure to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables along with lean proteins and whole grains. Drink plenty of water to keep yourself regular and to promote weight loss. If you do feel a detox plan is the right choice, discuss options with your doctor and choose one that works gradually and offers realistic results.
