Pool deck repair is very important when cracks appear in the concrete. To repair these fissures, a crack or series of cracks must first be widened if necessary to fit in the bonding agent. The area around the crack must be cleaned before the agent is applied. Once it has dried, the excess bonding agent must be removed with paint to conceal the repair work.

Small cracks in a pool deck will widen over time. Should they go unnoticed for a long period, there is the chance they will completely devastate the pool deck. Smaller cracks are also hard to fix because the bonding agents used in pool deck repair may not fit into them.

With this in mind, cracks actually have to be widened in order to allow repair. Use a circular saw to increase the size of a crack so that it is about half an inch in width at the absolute maximum. This should be wide enough to allow a syringe or caulking gun to fit into it.

During pool deck repair, it is very important to clean the area surrounding the crack thoroughly. There should be no dirt particles left behind. This is because the substance used to fix the crack will bond to this grime rather than the sides of the crack. When the crack has been completely cleaned, it should be dry.

The cracks should be filled with polyurethane until this filler is adjacent to the pool deck. Some tubes allow for easy application whereas other materials require water to be mixed with the bonding agent. If the crack is not wide enough, the agent will be unable to fit properly and the problem will remain.

Once the agent has been applied, it must be allowed to dry completely. Carefully read the instructions on the tube because the drying time of bonding agents varies wildly. Some take only a few hours to dry whereas others may take at least a day.

There is likely to be leftover agent protruding from the crack after this pool deck repair step. This must be removed by an electric sander; the surface of the pool deck should be smooth when this is completed. Excess filler goes hard and is dangerous to everyone using the pool deck.

Fixing the crack is not the final step in pool deck repair. The area that has just been tended to must be covered up with paint to will ensure it blends in with the rest of the pool deck. This is a simple task and requires a small application of paint which is the same color as the deck.
