The range of bedroom interior design ideas is as varied as the people who occupy different bedrooms all over the world. In spite of the wide diversity, there are a few basic concepts that can make the process of coming up with the ideal interior design for a particular bedroom a lot easier. Taking the time to consider these elements will allow the interior designer to not only introduce some new ideas to the client, but also incorporate some of the customer’s likes and dislikes into the ultimate design.

One component that is key to all types of bedroom interior design ideas is who will occupy the space. A design idea that is ideal for a bedroom occupied by an adult male will not necessarily be appropriate for an adult female. What works for a single person may be inappropriate for a couple. Children’s bedrooms have design needs that are different from those of a bedroom designed for an adult. This makes knowing a little about the individual or couple who will sleep in the room very important.

Another of the key bedroom interior design ideas has to do with focusing on the main function of the space: sleeping. While a bedroom is often utilized for other purposes, it must ultimately serve as an area that inspires peace, comfort, and a sense of sanctuary. Including colors that help to calm the individual and make him or her feel comfortable will go a long way in making the room design a success. When applicable, use prints and patterns sparingly, since these can sometimes excite people rather than calm them down.

Maintaining a proper scale within the bedroom is also a crucial element in most bedroom interior design ideas or plans. One common mistake that individuals and even some designers make is using furnishings or window treatments that tend to overpower the space, making it feel cramped and somewhat foreboding. Going with furnishings that provide ample comfort but also allow easy movement around the room can do as much for creating the right atmosphere as utilizing the right combination of colors.

The proper use of texture is also one of the more important interior design ideas that should be involved in any final design. Just as the eyes should enjoy what is seen, the hands should enjoy what the fingers touch. Including upholstery, wall coverings, and bedding that pull different textures into the room can go a long way in creating a serene setting that serves as the ideal place to retire at the end of a long day.

Keep in mind that there is no one set of bedroom interior design ideas that is perfect for any situation. By taking into consideration who will use the room, paying attention to choices in color and texture, and keeping the elements within the room in scale, it is possible to create an inviting design that will be enjoyed for many years.

When we recently remodeled out bedroom I was looking for some contemporary interior design ideas. I really enjoyed walking through an Ikea store that had several different bedroom designs all set up. This gave me a lot of inspiration and ideas of what I wanted to do.

I think it is important to decorate in a way that you feel comfortable with and not go with something just because someone else might recommend it. At the end of the day, you want this to be a place where you can unwind and relax, and the best way to do this is if you love what you have picked out.

The biggest challenge I have when decorating my bedroom is finding something that is not too masculine for me and not too feminine for my husband. He does not like the pretty, flowery prints and I don't like the darker, masculine themes.

I am usually able to find something that we both can agree on, but it takes awhile sometimes. I also always make sure my bedding is machine washable. Because it is so bulky, I will take it to a place that has larger washing machines, but this is so much cheaper than something that needs to be dry cleaned.
