When choosing plus size designer clothing, it is important that you select clothing that fits you well, is suitable to your lifestyle, and that is priced in line with your clothing budget. In many cases, designer clothing is more expensive than other types of clothing, so for the sake of obtaining good value for your money you should pay special attention to how a garment fits, looks, and feels. Be sure to take the time to actually visit retail stores so that you can try on the plus size designer clothing that interests you and make sure that it fits or that it can be altered to fit.

One advantage to shopping for designer clothing is that many designers have their own distinctive style. If you are aware of the designers you like, you can target your shopping toward their collections. Still, it doesn't always hold that every garment by a favorite designer will necessarily fit you well or be something that you want to wear. In order to avoid spending money on a garment that you won't wear regularly, you should still visit stores and carefully examine each item of clothing to make sure that it is suitable for you. Never buy an item that is too small in anticipation of eventually losing weight. Buy what you can wear now and remember that you can always have a garment altered to fit later on.

Another thing to consider when buying plus size designer clothing is whether the clothing that interests you is actually suitable for the way you live. For example, it may not make sense to spend a lot of money on a designer suit if you work in an office or for an organization that does not have a formal dress code. Instead, it may make more sense to spend your money on more casual plus size designer clothing that you will wear on a regular basis.

If you sometimes have difficulty finding flattering clothing, you may wish to bring a friend or even a personal shopper to the store. Getting an objective, second opinion cannot only help ensure that you actually invest in plus size designer clothing that looks good on you, but may even inspire you to become more adventurous in your clothing choices and try on items that you would otherwise have never considered. Finally, make sure that you set a reasonable budget for your shopping trip and stick to it. Shopping during sales or when you have coupons can also be a great way of saving money while expanding your wardrobe.

WiseGEEK is dedicated to providing accurate and trustworthy information. We carefully select reputable sources and employ a rigorous fact-checking process to maintain the highest standards. To learn more about our commitment to accuracy, read our editorial process.

Where can I find plus sized juniors clothing? I am always struggling to find clothes that fit my daughter correctly. She is not that big but she is at an akward age where her body is in between a lot of different sizes. I find that most of the clothes in the junior's department are too small even though my daughter is not very heavy.

Has anyone encountered this problem? Do you have any suggestions for where to shop?

There is more plus sized women's designer clothing than there has ever been before. Designers have realized that this is a big segment of the market and that it is not going anywhere. It is not enough to make tiny little jeans for girls without hips. You have to sell clothes to women as they actually are, not as they would like to be.

This is great for bigger girls because there is some really trendy plus sized clothing available. It used to be that you had to wear boring or gaudy floral print designs that hung off of you like a trash bag. Now you can get stylish, modern looks that approximate anything you see on the models.

I have been wearing plus sized fashions for many years and the single best piece of advice I can give to anyone is to try something on before you buy it. It is great to shop online and you can find some great deals, but you will probably end up returning most of what you buy because it doesn't fit the way that you'd expect.

Luckily there are a number of stores these days that cater to women looking for practical and fashionable plus sized clothes. They tend to have knowledgable and supportive staff and they can help you find the look you want to flatter the figure that you have.
