To become a quality process engineer, a person typically needs to have at least a quality engineering associate's degree. In order to acquire a higher-paying job, the applicant will usually need a four-year degree. Many companies require other types of degrees as well, such as computer engineering or computer technology. Experience also can be important for a person to become a quality process engineer.

A quality engineer typically is responsible for inspecting each and every part or item that is created in a business. This includes car parts, food, electronics, and clothing. Every piece is inspected so that all errors are found and fixed. The engineer also is usually responsible for figuring out why any errors occurred.

Plenty of training is needed to become a quality process engineer because many sensitive and high-tech tools could be used to inspect items. Tools that may be used include gauges, ammeters, and volt meters. Applicants usually need to have a good understanding of how to use the specific tools that are required. Some companies ask that a person have a certain amount of experience with the tools before he or she applies for a quality control job.

Many companies require their employees to have other types of degrees. The type of degree that is need for a certain job will largely depend on what kind of quality control job a person wants. A dual major in fashion may be helpful to a quality control engineer that is seeking a job inspecting clothing, and a minor in computer technology may be useful to someone who wants to get a job inspecting electronics.

There are various other requirements to become a quality process engineer. An applicant typically needs to be able to write well, know how to use a computer, have experience with certain programs, and be able to follow directions. These engineers usually need to be able to pay attention to every little detail in order to do their job correctly. They need be able to work quickly, but efficiently. All applicants should be able to take initiative and be very motivated as well.

In countries outside of the United States, such as the United Kingdom, qualification in engineering or a relevant subject and experience is needed to become a quality process engineer. Many companies will also ask that their employees get their six sigma green belt. This is a certificate training course taken online that covers areas like production, design, and customer service.
